Ways We Choose A Good Book

*Look at the cover for illustrations and clues to what it is about.

*I look at the author and see if I know them from other books I have read.

*I flip through the book to see pictures and read a page or two to see if it is interesting to me.

*Read the back description so you can get more information about the story and what it is about.

*Look for books that talk about your passion.

*I look at the illustrator to see if they are interesting to me.

*I read about the author to see what he or she likes to see if I like them too. I can read a few pages to get the idea.

* Read the first page to get a sense of the story. Look at the setting.

*Look at other books the author has written to see if you have read or like their past books.

*Read the title and see if it catches your attention.

*Sometimes I like to read the last few pages so I know something about the ending before I read all of it.

*I read the author’s note or acknowledgements to get ideas about the author and story.

* Does it have a gold sticker to show it has one an award or words that tell about who else liked it.

*Look at the setting and see when and where it takes place.

*Read the end of a few chapters to see if it has a “hook” that makes you want to keep reading.

*Does it have humor? Adventure? Is it a genre I enjoy?

*Did a friend recommend it?
